Dr. George H. Drakes was inspired to pursue a career in pain medicine and rehabilitation by a family deeply rooted in the values of healthy living and medical care. His passion for improving the lives of those living with chronic pain has been the foundation of his career. After earning his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1986, Dr. Drakes completed his residency in 1990 at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, a prestigious Wayne State University-affiliated hospital.
A fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Dr. Drakes has remained dedicated to patient care, teaching, and community engagement. As an assistant clinical professor at George Washington University, he mentors medical students and offers hands-on learning opportunities at his practice. He continues to inspire through public lectures on pain management, including presentations in Barbados, while delivering compassionate, cutting-edge care to his patients every day.
Outside of his work at Metro Spine Pain Centers, Dr. Drakes cherishes time with his wife, Wilma, and their three sons, G. Hudson, Alandre, and Benjamin. He has a passion for car restoration, enjoys playing golf and tennis, loves swimming, and finds joy in exploring new destinations through travel.
